What does “Yom Teruah” mean? What is it about? How is it observed? Why is it called Rosh Hashanah? Why is this day a shabbat? What do the blasts sound like? Yoel and Jono discuss these questions and we listen to the sounds of the shofar on Yom Teruah.
Psalm 47
Clap your hands, all you peoples!
Shout to God with cries of joy!
For YHWH ‘Elyon is awesome,
a great king over all the earth.
He makes peoples subject to us,
puts nations under our feet.
He chooses our heritage for us,
the pride of Ya‘akov, whom he loves. (Selah)
God goes up to shouts of acclaim,
YHWH to a blast on the shofar.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our king, sing praises!
For God is king of all the earth;
sing praises in a maskil.
God rules the nations;
God sits on his holy throne.
The leaders of the people gather together,
the people of the God of Avraham;
for the rulers of the earth belong to God,
who is exalted on high.

September 18, 2018 at 5:34 pmShalom Yoel!
Why is it fobidden to play an instrument in Shabbath and Yom Tov?
Thank you very much?

October 4, 2018 at 2:33 pmIn older days it was allowed, but rabbinic authorities forced it due to the possibility of violation of Shabbat. If we keep to the original principles, which even rabbinic sources admit too, music playing would be allowed.
