This Week’s Haftarah

BOOK OF ISAIAH, ISAIAH, ISAIAH 50, ISAIAH PROPHECY, SUFFERING SERVANT
“YHWH says: “Where is your mother’s divorce document which I gave her when I divorced her? Or to which of my creditors did I sell you? You were sold because of your sins; because of your crimes was your mother divorced.”
Did YHWH forsake Israel?  Who is the suffering servant in Isaiah 50 and where is the divorce document?  We address these questions, as well as why Isaiah 53 is not included among the haftarot, as we examine the text of Haftarah Eqev.

Thank you for this great shiur Yoel. I agree with everything you said. We need to be in a better state of mind and behavior to be worthy of building the temple. On the other hand, one wonders if the temple would bring that wisdom to us, so it becomes a chicken-and-egg problem. First temple was built by a human “decree” (King David’s), second was built by God’s decree. So it’s hard to say if we need to wait for the divine instruction.
Hope to hear more of recordings like this, where you address tangent topics. I greatly appreciate it!
