At this time of the “fast of the fifth”, we are reminded to love truth and peace in Zechariah 8:19. Listen as Yoel teaches about this verse and the customs of mourning the destruction of the temples at this time. This podcast is an excerpt from an episode of the “Light Of The Prophets” series with Jono Vandor at Truth2U.org.
“YHWH-Tzva’ot says, ‘The fast days of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months are to become times of joy, gladness and cheer for the house of Y’hudah. Therefore, love truth and peace.’

August 1, 2017 at 9:10 amAfter listening to the discussion between you and Jono and not having been raised with a tradition to follow, Zechariah 8:19 is pretty clear. On that topic though HaShem does not command us not to have other celebrations but he does command us not to celebrate (Worship) the way the nations do… This is where I would almost call the fasts not celebrations but similar to Hanuka in that it is a acknowledgement of our shared history and a time to glorify HaShem for his mighty deeds. Could the fasts be thought of that way as well that though our temple be destroyed our God is still God and his people will one day have victory? Thinking about it like that I think I could celebrate…
Thanks for taking the time to put this together!
