I really believe we have a personal relationship with God and that He cares about every single aspect of our lives, as is stated in Psalm 139 and Psalm 33:13-15. Isaiah 45:7 and Amos 3:6b further support this idea (in my opinion). Of course one could argue that this is in a national level, not in a personal level and I admit I may be wrong, but I really believe this is in a personal level too.
But I agree 100% with you that the most basic aspect of this relationship is to be loyal to the covenant.
And, regarding those peolple who see God as a “genie”, this is not just dangerous, but its very narcissistic. Because, if God would do everything you ask for, so who is the master?
