First, i admit ignorance of Hebrew, so I must depend upon multiple English translations (plus listening to teachers like yourself). As I studied this episode regarding Noah, Cham, and Kan’aan, I wondered why Kan’aanan would be cursed for something that his father had done. Also was Cham Noah’s youngest son? It makes more sense to me, that this transgression involved both father and son. Perhaps Kan’aan saw his grandfather’s nakedness, and laughingly told his father. (I can well imagine a young man seeing this as amusing), and Cham, rather than rebuking his son, went to see for himself. He also thought it was funny (this family line is obviously tainted). Cham goes and shares this “joke” with his two brothers, disrespecting and dishonoring Noah–to whom they owe their very lives! Shem and Yepheth do what Cham should have done, and covered their father’s indiscretion. It seems more reasonable (and just) that, rather than Kan’aan being cursed for something his father had done, rather both father and son were involved, therefore this family line was cursed.
But since I have never heard/read this line of thought before, I must accept that my understanding is flawed. Perhaps you can clear up where my reasoning is skewed.

The detail missing is the fact that Kenaan was born after the the flood 10:1. Hence Kenaan could have not been involved in this story.
