March 1, 2020 at 6:19 pmShalom, Yoel!
Could it be that the descriptions in Shemot and Bamidbar about judges and officers are talking about different things? I mean, if there would be officers of thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens, they would be more than 70.
Thank you for the podcast!

These are two different things. The 70 are the overall leaders of the tribed. while the other group is small group leaders divided by the number of subjects under them.

January 22, 2022 at 9:40 pmShalom Yoel,
Thank you for an exceptional “shiur” on Torah portion Yitro. Your opinion is one of the rare (if not unique) that is rid of all the prejudices, it’s a true gem in today’s world.
I very much appreciate your take on the meaning of the sanctity of Shabbat and the prohibited work.
Regarding the “contradiction” in the singularity of the chosen place – isn’t that directly addressed in Shemot 20:24 “Make for Me an altar of earth and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your sacrifices of well-being, your sheep and your oxen; in every place where I cause My name to be mentioned I will come to you and bless you.”
The expression there is bekal hamaqom – so if maqom was unique identifier, the prepostition would not be valid?
In my opinion the Tabernacle and later the Temple in Jerusalem was not set as an exclusive place of worship – but as a central one, calling on people to visit it three times per year to strengthen the unity of the nation under the covenant. if I recall correctly, neither Solomon nor David or prophets identified Jerusalem as the “only” maqom. Not sure what the documentary hypothesis proponents are pointing to?
