Thank you Yoel for a detailed and very instructive teaching on the prophecy.
I wanted to ask an unrelated question from this week’s Torah portion:
Deuteronomy 14:21
You shall not eat anything that has died a natural death; give it to the stranger in your community to eat, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a people consecrated to the LORD your God.
The word for “stranger” here is GER.
How to reconcile this with Exodus 12:49:
There shall be one law for the citizen and for the stranger who dwells among you.
With the same word (GER)?
Does the additional descriptive term “אֲשֶׁר־בִּשְׁעָרֶ֜יךָ”, “who is in your gates”, distinguish between two types of gerim?

August 31, 2021 at 10:57 amThe idea of one law does not always qualify with every law. In the aforementioned cases, these are two different laws, hence you cannot apply the rule of “one law” to everything. A Ger is not an Israelite and not all commandments apply to them. In the Torah, there is only one type of Ger, a non-Isrelite who joins Israel but does not fully convert. The other two statuses that exist are Toshav which is a person who does not practice any of the Torah is only temporarily dwelling. The last type is a full Israelite who is not a descendant of Israel.
