Join us in this series from TalkingTorah.org, as Yoel and Jeff Gilbert explore the history and usage of the Oral Torah. This week in Part 2, hear about the “beautiful mess” in the second temple period and the levels of disharmony that prevailed during the prophet Jeremiah’s time until the Hasmonian period. We close with the beginning of the discussion on the canonization of the “Tanakh” and which books were considered “proper” for daily study before Jeremiah’s time.

August 10, 2017 at 4:18 amThank you for taking the time to give us the back ground and development of the Oral Torah. I found it extremely interesting the discussion between the high priest in Jerusalem and the provinces, explaining how to observe Hag HaMatzot. Politics seems to always interfere with observance! Great historical underpinning!
